For two weeks beginning Monday, the 10 winners of the 2014 Facilities of Merit awards will be announced on AthleticBusiness.com.
As we did last year, we will announce this year's winners, one each business day, beginning Monday, October. 6. The winners will be the subject of a video presentation that will debut prior to the keynote address by William Taylor at the Athletic Business Conference & Expo in Orlando on Nov. 14, as well as the subject of a feature in the November issue of the magazine.
Following a successful judging last year, we again invited our panel of seven judges to our home office in downtown Madison, Wis. The judges spent an afternoon reviewing 61 entries, all of which appeared in the June Architectural Showcase issue, and selecting roughly a third worthy of more in-depth scrutiny.
Arriving early and rested for the second day, the judges delved right into the surviving entries, scrutinizing site plans, budgets function, and so much more. There were a few clear standout facilities that received unanimous approval from the judges, but after a brief break for lunch, the judges were tasked with deciding which of the remaining award-worthy facilities had the little extras that put them ahead of the others.
