L.A. Rec and Parks Debuts Synthetic Turf Soccer Fields

There's some new turf in the San Fernando Valley.

L.A.'s Department of Recreation and Parks, along with Councilman Paul Krekorian and the Bureau of Engineering celebrated the grand opening of three new state-of-the-art synthetic turf soccer fields at Whitsett Fields Park in North Hollywood.

As soccer continues to gain in popularity among young people, the need for more high-quality soccer fields has grown, according to Krekorian's office.

The newly installed fields include one large and two small synthetic turf soccer fields at Whitsett Fields Park. They'll serve nearly 9,000 youths and families that live within a half-mile walking distance of the park in North Hollywood.

An estimated 5.3 million gallons of water will be saved annually with the three new synthetic turf soccer fields versus natural turf fields.

New bleachers, shade structures for the bleachers, fencing and landscaping were part of the completed phase one renovation project.
