Moncks Corner's Regional Recreation Complex just got a bit larger.
At an April 18 council meeting, town council agreed to match three grants which will fund four batting cages and a "tot lot" adjoining the playground at the complex. The town will receive about $40,000 in grants for the projects, with about $9,000 coming from the town in match for the playground.
The 80-foot by 20-foot cages, used for sluggers to work on their bat-swinging techniques, will also contain electrical outlets to plug-in ball-pitching machines. The tot lot for children ages 2 - 5, will contain a play-set composed of a tunnel and slide, spring animal, climbing wall and conga drums for children's musical pleasure. The grounds already feature slides and swings.
Moncks Corner Mayor Michael Lockliear had placed expanding the playground near the top of the town's agenda entering 2017. He said he rarely drives pass the complex without seeing it bustling with children.
A padded, special needs baseball field is also in the works to accompany the center.
