On Monday, patrons at the Tokay Senior Fitness Center were forced to evacuate when a faulty control panel sent a treadmill up in flames.
According to The Fayetteville Observer, a report was made to a center employee around 1:30 pm when the machine began producing smoke.
In a news release, the Fayetteville Fire Department stated that all of the building’s occupants were safely evacuated prior to their arrival on the scene.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the single treadmill, and there were no injuries.
The Tokay Senior Fitness Center is currently closed due to fire and smoke damage, estimated at $20,000.
