Fitness Center Users Relocated After Roof Damage

Members of the fitness center at F.O. Moxley Community Center in Bowling Green, Ky. have been forced to move to alternative workout spaces after rain and heavy snow damaged the facility's roof and caused flooding. The fitness center, operated by the city's parks department, is used by about 1,000 members. Rather than leave them out in the cold, city officials are working on implementing alternative exercise options for its members while damage is assessed and repaired.

According to city manager Kevin DeFebbo, some of the fitness equipment will be relocated to other spaces in the center that are still viable for use, including a community room and racquetball court. However, DeFebbo mentions that gym-goers are “going to be somewhat reduced in the scope of what we had formerly.”

The alternative fitness spaces are expected to be ready for use sometime this week and, according to DeFebbo, the city will lower the rate of membership for the time being due to the lack of space.

Administrative offices at the center also suffered damage, and staff will be moved to a trailer in the parking lot while their offices are repaired.

DeFebbo predicts that all of the necessary repairs at the center will be finished by this fall.

The cost of the repairs will be funded by the city’s insurance.
