A city maintenance crew in Huntsville, Texas, made a troubling discovery that underlines the need for regular and vigilant safety inspections of municipal playgrounds.

Huntsville Police have launched an investigation after city workers found razor blades embedded in two different slides at Emancipation and Boettcher Mill Road Parks.

Police believe that a lighter was used to melt the blades into the plastic.

The blades were removed immediately upon discovery on July 6, but parents in the area remain concerned.

Roosevelt Dancey, whose family visits the playground almost daily, told KHOU, "This should be a safe haven for children, they should be able to be playing, be normal children.”

"I can't imagine what a person would be thinking in their mind to do that, at a playground," said Desaree Dancey.

Huntsville Police are asking for anyone with information regarding the incident to call (936) 291-5490.
