Man Continued to Coach Youth Softball Despite Arrest

Parents in a Georgia county are upset and concerned after they learned a local softball coach was able to coach a team even though the man had been arrested on child pornography charges.

Anthony Bartlett was arrested two years ago after investigators discovered child pornography on his laptop, but has been out on bail since then.

Lauren McAuliffe is a witness in the case, as well as a parent, and was upset to discover that since Bartlett was released on bail, he started coaching another Henry County girls softball team.

“I was mortified, and angry, and severely upset because he has been out on bail for over two years and no one has done anything about it,” McAuliffe said

According to the Spalding County prosecutor, delays in the case were due to a need for additional investigation and because the defense attorney requested more time.

The team discovered the charges last October and Bartlett subsequently left the team, said Henry County parks and recreation direction Tim Coley.

Coley said that Bartlett will not be issued another badge to coach in the county, but officials cannot stop him from being near the park since he has not been convicted of any crime and there were no conditions on his bond that prohibit him from being near the park.

A trial is slated for June where Bartlett will face four charges of child exploitation and possession of child pornography.
