No charges will be filed against former Sabres forward Andrew Peters for his involvement in a brawl during a youth hockey tournament at HarborCenter on Saturday, Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced Tuesday.

Peters, 36, of Hamburg, who is the coach of the Junior Sabres Midget 15U team, was suspended Sunday from coaching indefinitely after video of the incident surfaced.

"We have reviewed the case and have spoken to the parents of the young man involved in the incident," says Flynn. "They tell us they don't want to pursue criminal charges against Peters. As a result, our office won't be taking any further legal action at this time."

Flynn said in a statement that in the video "Peters appears to have pushed a player on the opposing team."

Chris Bandura, director of media relations for the Sabres, said Tuesday the organization had no update regarding Peters' suspension as coach of the Junior Sabres team.

Peters did not respond Tuesday to a request for comment.

On Monday morning, Peters briefly addressed the incident on "The Instigators," the two-hour morning show he co-hosts on WGR 550.

"There's something I need to address," he said on air.

"Fighting in 'youth sports' is unacceptable ... in all sports, not just hockey," Peters said.

Peters added: "I did not do a good job this weekend communicating those skills to my team. I can't discuss anything in regard to the altercation. I have to move on from that."

Peters played for the Sabres from 2003 to 2009 and retired from the NHL after the 2009-10 season. He was mostly known as an enforcer, scoring just seven points but receiving 650 penalty minutes in 229 career games.
