THE TREND
Unmanned/remotely piloted aerial vehicles have the potential to increase the effectiveness of sport security and safety. Sport security managers across all disciplines will have to consider the potential benefits of these; such as the ability to conduct inspections of difficulty to access locations, assess situations and damage, coordinate response, locate missing persons or targets and address crowd and traffic flow.
These newer unmanned aerial systems (UAS) are equipped with features such as high-resolution, near-real-time, video capability as well as stabilization mechanisms, offering clear, sharp imagery that provides unique perspectives not necessarily offered using traditional manned aerial platforms. Sport venue and event owners will have to consider how these systems can be used to capture footage of their events and how to integrate their usage by media outlets which may leverage these systems in the very near future.
