Fan Falls in Fight After Cavaliers Capture Championship

A fan is in critical but stable condition after falling from the second deck to the first deck at Oracle Arena during a fight Sunday night in Oakland, Calif.

The incident took place after the Cleveland Cavaliers capped a 3-1 NBA Finals deficit to defeat the Golden State Warriors and capture the city’s first professional championship in 52 years.

The fan fell off a railing after he was pushed by another fan during the fight, the East Bay Times reported. According to a statement from Oracle Arena, the man who fell is in his early 20s and was “immediately attended to by Arena personnel and paramedics and transferred to a nearby hospital.”

Here is the full Oracle Arena statement:

Police interviewed witnesses and reviewed surveillance footage Sunday night, the newspaper reported. No arrests have yet been made.

What prompted the fight remains unclear, as does which teams the fans involved in the incident were rooting for in the hard-fought, down-to-the-wire Game 7. The Cavaliers won 93-89.
