Fan Injured After Jumping From Wrigley Field Bleachers

A man was seriously injured Thursday night after he jumped from the bleachers over the right field wall at Wrigley Field in Chicago.

The man was lying face down on the warning track after he landed. Witnesses said the man was not moving at first, then only slightly. After the man was turned on his back by medical personnel, a brace was put on him to stabilize his neck before he was put on a cart and taken off the field.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the man had been warned by Wrigley Field security about putting his foot on the railing. It is not clear how the man got over the basket that hangs over the wall, CBSSports.com reported. There was a visible dip in the yellow fencing at the top of the 11 1/2-foot wall above where the man was being treated, The Associated Press reported.

The game between the Chicago Cubs and the Atlanta Braves was in a rain delay and had not begun. The Cubs released the following statement:

ā€œPrior to tonightā€™s game, a fan was injured after attempting to jump onto the field from the Wrigley Field bleachers. The fan was taken by paramedics to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. We are unable to provide further comment on his condition at this time. We will remain in contact with the fanā€™s family to stay updated on his progress.ā€

The name, age and condition of the man were not publicly known as of Friday morning.
