Japan Gets Sneak Peek of Olympic Facility Proposals

Design proposals by two groups competing for a lucrative contract to build a stadium for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics were revealed today.

The Japan Sports Council released the designs today. View them here.

According to AP, the Council did not identify which firms submitted which designs.

Design difficulties have delayed work on the stadium, which is intended to accommodate about 80 thousand people. The original plan was scrapped due to issues related to both cost and scale.

Despite the delays, both plans call for construction to be complete by November, 2019.

The new $1.3 billion stadium will replace the razed National Stadium, which hosted the 1964 Olympics.
