Padres Under Fire for Mishandling of National Anthem

The San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus was scheduled to sing the National Anthem prior to Saturday evening’s Dodgers-Padres game, but an embarrassing mistake has forced the Padres to issue an apology.

Instead of having a chance to sing, the 100 volunteer singers were made to stand in center field while the Padres played a recorded version of the anthem featuring a woman’s voice, which led to the singers being heckled with homophobic taunts, including “You sing like a girl.”

The group released a statement via its Facebook page calling for a transparent investigation into the incident. You can read the statement here.

As for the Padres, they also released a statement, apologizing for the error.
