A 55-second video posted on Facebook showing a young woman on her phone while a girl cries for help on a climbing wall got an employee at a Surrey, B.C. gymnasium fired.

According to the Toronto Sun, the 19-year-old employee was fired from her position at Funtopia Surrey for violating facility policies, including one prohibiting employees from having their phones outside of a designated area.

Yasen Nikolov, a manager at the facility, told the Sun that the incident never should have happened. Nikolov said that the employee had been working at the facility for about six months prior to the incident, and had gotten thorough training.

The video appears to have been posted by the girl’s mother, and was viewed more than 7,700 times before being taken down last week.

The incident is a reminder to employees everywhere: don’t text at work -- especially if your work involves looking after children on climbing walls.
