Paradice Island at Pioneer Park

Commerce City, CO
Construction Cost: $7.2 million
Occupancy Date: July 2015

Commerce City wanted to bolster its community identity with a dramatic project that would be a source of pride and compete with other facilities in the region. It wanted to involve residents in the planning and design, and ultimately give visitors a true entertainment experience beyond the typical outdoor pool offering. From these goals, the game-themed Paradice Island (“pair of dice”) outdoor waterpark was born.

Every corner of the park is bright and fun, with three main bodies of water for different activities and age groups. The toddler pool has a zero-depth entry and features a huge interactive play feature with a dumping bucket, a frenzy of sprays, geysers, squirt machines, slides and climbing. The largest pool is a sports pool for basketball, volleyball and lap swimming, connected to a large lazy river with bubble pit. At the other end of the lazy river is the plunge pool for the three slides.

The building materials, colors and textures of the new bath house and concessions building were designed to utilize existing materials and complement existing park structures. Natural, earth-toned colors and finishes around the new aquatic park ensure that the brightly colored games theme of the spray features and play structures stand out. The park also includes shaded tables, rentable cabanas and open green space for sunning, kids activities and special events.
