University of Oregon Student Recreation Center Expansion

Part of the University of Oregon’s original Student Recreation Center expansion project, the new Downtown Aquatics facility is comprised of three new bodies of water. Lap swim, open rec swim, family swim and physical education classes are offered throughout the year.

Replacing the CRC’s Leighton Pool, the new facility features a 12-lane,

25-yard lap pool with water depth ranging from 3½ to 12 feet and two 1-meter diving boards. This pool includes space for a full-size competition water polo course and two diving boards, and can simultaneously accommodate open swim and group classes.

A three-lane, 25-yard warm-water recreation pool hosts water volleyball and basketball during open rec time and offers bench seating for spectators. Finally, a 16-person hot tub is located next to the recreation pool includes a transfer wall entry for better accessibility. All three pools are ADA-accessible via ramp, stair or chair-lift entries.

The SRC is projected to receive LEED Platinum certification — the highest level of sustainability certification available. One of the sustainability features is the reuse of Leighton Pool, which from its location beneath the CRC lobby serves as a cistern that collects the Pacific Northwest rainwater for reuse.
