At 164 Feet, Pool in Poland Will Be World's Deepest

Paul Steinbach Headshot

Designers of a new destination aquatics facility in Poland have literally gone off the deep end.

Set to open this fall in Mszczonow, a town southwest of Warsaw, the Deepspot pool will measure 148 feet at its deepest point, according to Travel+Leisure. The entire tank will hold 27 times the amount of water as a typical pool and require 1,100 tons of steel.

The pool is seen as a non-oceanic training alternative for beginner and professional scuba divers, complete with overhangs and underwater caves. Non-divers can observe from an underwater tunnel, and an adjacent hotel will afford views into the pool through windows in visitors' rooms.

Call it a race to the bottom. Once opened, Deepspot will supplant Italy's Y-40 Deep Joy as world's deepest pool, but its hold on the designation could be short-lived. Britain may be home to a pool 164 feet deep as early as next year, according to T+L.
