Police in Boone County, West Virginia are searching for a group of teenagers who they say drained a public pool on Monday night.
The teens threw all of the outdoor furniture from the pool deck at the Racine Pool into the pool then drained it of the 250,000 gallons of water that fills it.
According to police, whoever committed the crime knew exactly what they were doing. The intruders knew where to find the valve to drain the pool and had the tools necessary to do so. This makes the police believe that the teens used to work for the Boone County parks and recreation department or another company that uses the same tools.
Following the break-in, workers started to install protective metal bars around the valve to secure it. Once these bars are in place, the pool can be refilled, a process that can take at least three days.
It costs approximately $2,500 to refill the pool, which will come from taxpayers.
The teens who did this could face two charges including trespassing and destruction of property, which is a felony offense.
