Details surrounding the resignation of Cleveland State University menās swimming and diving coach Paul Graham have begun to come to light.
Graham resigned from his post in February, just a week before the Horizon League Championships, according to Swim Swam. At the time, the reasons for his resignation were unclear. Now, Cleveland.com reports that Grahamās resignation comes after an internal review that found that allegations of drug use within the program āhad merit.ā
The school launched the investigation when the allegations first came to light in February. Graham, as well as two other senior athletic department officials, have resigned since the investigation began.
From a university statement:
"In early February, allegations of drug use involving members of our menās swimming and diving program were brought to our attention. Upon learning of these allegations we conducted an internal review, determined they had merit and acted promptly to address them. Head coach Paul Graham resigned immediately and two senior athletic department officials resigned from the program following our internal review. Members of the swim team who violated team rules were disciplined in accordance with university policy.
We have begun a thorough review of our policies and intend to reinforce full compliance with these policies. We will not compromise on our commitment to upholding the utmost integrity in our athletics program and the well-being of our student athletes."
Specific disciplinary action taken against the swimmers hasnāt yet been announced.
