April is Drowning Prevention Awareness Month in Palm Beach County, and Boynton Beach and the county have safety opportunities for the public's benefit.

The Drowning Prevention Coalition is offering vouchers for free swimming lessons. The vouchers are a $50 value and good for six to eight swim lessons at more than 15 pools in the county. The vouchers are for children ages 3 t 12, according to a news release. To sign up for vouchers, visit pbcgov.org/dpc.

Also, the YMCA of South Palm Beach County is offering families up to five free swim lessons from April 16 to 20. To sign up, go to the locations: DeVos-Blum Family YMCA of Boynton Beach, 9600 S. Military Trail, and Peter Blum Family YMCA of Boca Raton, 6631 Palmetto Circle S.

For those who live closer to the city in Boynton, the recreation and parks department has been awarded money from the USA Swimming Foundation to give free swim lessons at John H. Denson Pool.

The city will be able to give free swimming lessons to 75 children in the community, according to a news release.

West Palm Beach's Warren Hawkins Aquatic Center also was chosen for the grant, according to the foundation's website.
