The LSU and Tulane football teams are spending the week away from home due to Hurricane Ida’s impact on Louisiana.

LSU, which is located in Baton Rouge, tweeted over the weekend that the football team was leaving Saturday night for Houston, Texas. The Tigers planned to stay in Houston until Thursday, when they’ll head to Los Angeles for their season-opening game at UCLA on Sept. 4.

LSU has announced that school is closed through Tuesday due to the hurricane.

Tulane football is scheduled to host Oklahoma at Yulman Stadium in New Orleans on Sept. 4.

“Due to the expected power as a result of Hurricane Ida, volleyball and football will relocate to Tallahassee, Florida and Birmingham, Alabama, respectively to maintain their ability to practice in preparation for their games this week,” Tulane tweeted Saturday. “Both teams will return to New Orleans once power is restored.”

The 3-0 Tulane women’s volleyball team claimed a home win over California on Saturday. The Green Wave are scheduled to play in a tournament at Florida State on Thursday and Friday, and don’t have a home match scheduled until the Tulane Invite starts Sept. 17.

The New Orleans Saints canceled Saturday’s home preseason game against the Arizona Cardinals. The Saints are currently in Dallas showing the Cowboys’ facilities.

“Due to the intensification of the hurricane throughout the day and after the most recent tropical update, the team's leadership has made the decision in the best interests of all personnel that may have been directly and indirectly affected by the storm,” the Saints’ release read. “The announcement comes after constant communications with City of New Orleans officials, the National Weather Service, Homeland Security, Gov. Edwards and leading state officials and the National Football League. The team encourages all residents of the region to take precautionary measures to remain safe throughout the impending hurricane.”
