BHSU Brings Lawsuit Against Synthetic Turf Contractor

Black Hills State University in Spearfish, S.D., has commissioned Kiefer USA of Lindenhurst, Ill., to replace the synthetic turf at Lyle Hare Stadium before the 2017 football season.

The field was initially installed by contractor Geo-Surfaces in 2013 and suffered from soil-stabilization issues below the turf. BHSU athletic director Jhett Albers told the Black Hills Pioneer, “Repairs have been made over the last four years, but the field is at a point now where its playability has been greatly compromised."

Contractors will begin work immediately on a survey and soil samples, with the hope of installing the new turf by mid-August.

BHSU is currently pursuing a lawsuit against Geo-Surfaces. “For the safety of our student-athletes and others using the field,” said Albers, “we need to move forward now in preparation for the fall season.”
