The Ashley Ridge High School girls basketball coach has been charged with criminal sexual conduct with a former student, according to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.
Tron Y. Grant, 38, of 7930 Saint Ives Road in North Charleston, was arrested Feb. 26 and charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct.
A victim came forward with the allegations Feb. 2 and told sheriff's detectives that when Grant was employed as the Student Concern Specialist at Baptist Hill High School in Charleston, where she was a student, he had sex with her on at least two occasions, according to an affidavit.
She told authorities the incidents occurred between September and November 2006, and he had sex with her at his apartment and in his car, after he picked her up from her home, the affidavit stated. The victim said at the time she had been in a vulnerable state and reached out to Grant to talk, because of his position at the school, said law enforcement.
A witness corroborated the victim's account, the affidavit said.
According to District Two spokesperson Pat Raynor, Grant is employed as a basketball coach and security guard at the school and has been placed on administrative leave. He's been with the district three years, Raynor said.
Grant was released from jail on a $25,000 bond, jail records show.
