A McHenry woman has been charged with stealing more than $66,000 from the McHenry Baseball Association while serving as the group's treasurer in recent years, according to reports.
Kelly Ference, 32, of the 5000 block of Pyndale Drive in the city of McHenry, is facing felony counts of forgery and theft, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday. Police investigated after the McHenry Baseball Association learned that a large amount of money was not paid to the league's vendors in 2016 and 2017, and Ference was arrested Saturday, the report said.
The Northwest Herald reported Wednesday that Ference was convicted of theft and misuse of a credit card in 2007 and of forgery in 2008.
McHenry County circuit court records indicate Ference is next due in court Dec. 18 for a preliminary hearing. A criminal complaint outlining the allegations was filed against her Friday. A public defender has been appointed to represent her.
