Facility Friday: Buffalo Field House, Ole Miss Rec Center and More

The University of Buffalo celebrated the opening of its Murchie Family Fieldhouse this week. The 92,000-square-foot facility features a full indoor turf field, a rubber track surface, long/triple jump and pole vault pits, four motorized suspended softball hitting tunnels and the option to convert to four recreational fields. — UBBulls.com

 

The University of Mississippi is set to open its new South Campus Recreation Center next week. The 98,000-square-foot facility will offer students 6,000 square feet of functional training space (4,000 indoors, 2,000 outdoors), an indoor high-ropes course, a climbing wall, 25,000 square feet of fitness space, two basketball courts, a multi-activity court, a track, a demonstration kitchen and a convenience store. Coastal Carolina’s Brooks Stadium expansion project is complete, increasing the stadium’s capacity from 9,000 up to 20,000 to meet the requirements of entering the FBS. The expansion was Phase Two of a three-year process that concludes the construction around the stadium. Coastal Carolina hosts its first game in the expanded stadium Aug. 31 against Eastern Michigan. — South Strand News

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee announced plans to expand its Klotche Center, which will improve student recreation space and create a dedicated basketball practice facility. The Klotche Center annex will be attached to the UWM Pavilion, and provide relief to overcrowding at existing facilities when recreation and intramural sports combine with athletics. The project just received approval from the governor, and an architect has not yet been selected. — MKEPanthers.com

Colorado State University this week initiated plans to build a women’s sports complex that will serve the school’s soccer and softball programs. The project, estimated to cost between $6.3 million and $6.5 million, will be housed where the soccer field is currently located. The university has approved a $300,000 budget to pursue design options, but the design and bid process hasn’t yet taken place. — CSURams.com
