Scott Stricklin has been selected to be the next athletic director at the University of Florida, university president Dr. Kent Fuchs announced on Tuesday.

Stricklin leaves Mississippi State, his alma mater, where he served as the athletic director for the past six years. Heā€™ll replace longtime AD Jeremy Foley, who announced his retirement in June.

ā€œIā€™ve known Scott on a personal and professional level for a long, long time,ā€ Foley said. ā€œI have a tremendous amount of respect for Scott and what he has accomplished at Mississippi State and the other institutions where he has worked.ā€

Stricklin helped to spearhead over $140 million of facility improvements at Mississippi State during his tenure. Under his leadership, athletics donations increased, as did the academics of student-athletes. He earned the Athletic Director of the Year Award from the National Association of College Directors of Athletics (NACDA) in 2015-16.

ā€œIā€™m really excited about this opportunity at Florida,ā€ Stricklin said. ā€œIā€™m an SEC guy. I understand the position Florida holds in college athletics. Iā€™m excited to come and be part of the department.ā€

Stricklinā€™s first day on the job in Gainesville is set for Nov. 1, according to the school.
