West Virginia University Athletics will host the second annual iBelong women’s basketball game at WVU Coliseum on Saturday, celebrating diversity and inclusion in sporting events.

WVU director of basketball operations and assistant to the head coach Patrick Biondo told The Dominion Post, “So often we hear that people of a different race, religion, sexual orientation, etc., didn’t know if they should attend a sporting event. We have chosen to use our platform in athletics to engage the community to eliminate these stereotypes and educate the community of the different races, cultures and religions right here in Morgantown.”

Held for the first time in 2018, the iBelong game has won a National Association of College Marketing Administrators gold award for Best Attendance Promotion. This year’s game against Oklahoma will feature activities booths, free T-shirts and other giveaways, as well as free admission.

“We value the beauty of diversity on our campus, on our athletic fields and courts, and most importantly in our communities. Here at WVU, we are proud of our student athletes, and the iBelong campaign is a big win for our campus. We look forward to people joining us as we cheer on our amazing women’s basketball team.” said Meshea Poore, vice president of diversity, equity and inclusion at the university.

The women’s basketball office worked closely with the campus Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion to plan the event, which begins at 2:30 p.m. for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
