Report: U.S. Sprinter Tests Positive for Marijuana

United States star sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson may be tossed from the Olympics after reportedly testing positive for marijuana.

The new was reported by The Gleaner, a Jamaican newspaper, which reported that Richardson had failed a test the U.S. track and field Olympic trials last month.

Richardson finished first in the 100-meter final at the trials, finishing with a time of 10.86 seconds.

The New York Times reported that Richardson is “automatically disqualified” from competing in the 100-meter race at the Olympics. It remains unclear whether Richardson will appeal the test result.

Jenna Prandini is expected to fill Richardson’s spot in the 100-meter race should Richardson remain disqualified.

The World Anti-Doping Agency has banned marijuana. A positive marijuana test can result in a suspension up to two years, with a minimum length of one month.
