C-USA Partners with Football Helmet Manufacturer

Conference USA announced an agreement to extend access of helmet-maker VICIS’ ZERO1 product throughout the conference. The partnership will also provide C-USA football coaches, equipment managers and athletic trainers with access to on-field safety education seminars provided by VICIS, as well as discounts on VICIS products.

The ZERO1 helmet has been highly rated since its introduction to the market in 2017. Performance testing by the NFL and NFLPA rated it first for its ability to best reduce the severity of head impacts, outperforming 33 other helmets. The ZERO1 is also the highest rated helmet in Virginia Tech’s Helmet Ratings for youth football.

The helmet has features designed to slow the force of impact, which some believe could help to decrease the risk of head injuries. It should be stated, however, that regardless of the head protection utilized, any athlete can sustain a head injury, and no helmet can prevent concussions.

Still, as Virginia Tech’s Helmet Ratings website points out, “helmet ratings identify the helmets that best reduce your chances of sustaining a concussion.” You can review the helmet ratings here.

“Student-athlete health and safety is extremely important to us,” C-USA commissioner Judy MacLeod said in a release announcing the move. “VICIS has continuously proven to be a leader in the industry and we are excited to be able to offer their top-rated helmets and education to our members.”
