Facility Friday: BC's Fish Field House, Memphis Athletics, Austin Community Rec Center

This week, Boston College showcased its new Fish Field House indoor practice facility. The $52.6 million, 115,700-square-foot project features a full regulation synthetic turf playing field, as well as 12,000 square feet of strength and conditioning space. The facility is still in the last stages of construction, but will open with preseason football camp beginning in early August. — BC.edu

As the City of Houston’s professional rugby franchise, the SaberCats have broken ground on a new stadium. The multisport complex, which will be built within the existing Houston Sports Park, will feature three fields and seating for 4,000. It is expected to be completed in time for the team’s 2019 season. — Houston Public Media

The City of Colorado Springs introduced plans for the Colorado Sports and Event Center — a two-facility project that will include an outdoor stadium and an event center. The outdoor stadium, which will be home to the Colorado Springs Switchbacks soccer team, will have seating for 10,000 spectators and be able to hold 20,000 people for entertainment events. The indoor event space will house the Colorado College ice hockey team and feature 3,000 permanent seats. — KRDO

The University of Memphis has begun construction on a $10.6 million expansion and renovation project at its athletic facilities. The first phase of the project includes the Indoor Football Practice Facility, which will tack on an additional 25,000 square feet to the existing Billy J. Murphy Athletic Complex and renovate adjacent areas. The new space will include a multipurpose room, a team training room, recovery stations, therapy pools, coaches offices and recruiting space. — Memphis Daily News

The City of Austin, Texas, held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new Community Recreation Center this week. Aimed at serving the whole community, regardless of age, the facility will feature state-of-the-art fitness space and an aquatic center. It will also feature some areas available for free to the public, and others accessible to members for a fee. The project is expected to be completed in late 2019. — Austin Daily Herald
