Facility Friday: Illinois Basketball Complex, Virginia Master Plan

The University of Illinois announced that it would expand and renovate its Ubben Complex basketball practice facility. Plans call for the venue to more than double in space, adding 45,000 square feet. Improvements to the facility will include new half courts for the men’s and women’s basketball teams, sports medicine services, a two-story weight room, and new locker rooms, offices and recruiting spaces. The $30 million project is pending approval from the board of trustees. — Chicago Tribune

Troy University is almost ready to move its football program into its new north end zone facility at Veterans Memorial Stadium. The 60,000-square-foot facility is awaiting final inspection and includes new offices, locker rooms and meeting space, as well as 400 new club seats and a new video board. — Montgomery Advertiser

The University of Virginia announced an athletics master plan that calls for a new football operations center, a new Olympic sports building, practice fields, a new softball stadium and a renovated McCue Center. The football facility will feature team areas, a strength and conditioning center, meeting rooms, sports nutrition facilities and offices. The Olympic sports building will include practice areas, locker rooms, team spaces, film rooms and a strength and conditioning center. — virginiasports.com

The University of Missouri is reportedly considering building a cross country course in the city of Columbia, Mo. Athletic director Jim Sterk told TV station KMIZ that he is working with the city’s parks and recreation department to identify a location for the course, which could serve high school championships, Southeastern Conference events and perhaps national events. — abc17news.com

Loyola University Chicago held a groundbreaking ceremony last week for the $18.5 million Alfie Norville Practice Facility. The facility will become the dedicated practice space for the school’s men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball programs. The University of Oklahoma is reportedly planning a new $22 million softball facility. The new facility will sideline the expected renovation of the existing Marita Hynes Field, which was announced in May 2017. The plan was revealed on Thursday when the agenda for an upcoming Board of Regents meeting was released. — Tulsa World
