The group led by soccer legend David Beckham is expected to present its plans for an MLS soccer stadium in Miami to the city commission next week. Plans call for a 28,000-seat stadium to be built on what is now a public golf course near the Miami International Airport. If the commission approves of the plan, voters would decide whether to amend the city’s charter to allow for the bid to move forward. In addition to the proposed stadium, the Beckham-led group plans to build public soccer fields, an underground parking facility and much more to the site. — ESPN.com

Valparaiso University is undergoing a renovation to its Hilltop Gym, thanks in part to a $350 thousand gift by the estate of alumnus Dale F. Kempf. The upgrades, which include installing air conditioning, new lighting and a permanent wall to separate the gym from the softball hitting area, will make the space a quality practice facility for the school’s basketball and volleyball programs. A nutrition center for the use of all student-athletes will also be added as part of the renovation. — Valpo.edu

Auburn University is nearing completion of construction on its new Harbert Family Recruiting Center at Jordan-Hare Stadium. The $28 million facility features a new, expanded locker room, recruiting space for football and Olympic sports, and what the school is calling the “Heisman Room.” AD Allen Greene led a tour of the facility in a video posted on the athletic department’s Twitter account. — auburn.247sports.com
