Facility Friday: Seton Hall Field, Austin FC, Braves Spring Training

Seton Hall University broke ground this week on a renovation project to Owen T. Carroll Field, the home of the school’s baseball and soccer programs. The renovations include upgrades to fan areas, including replacing old bleachers with chair-back seating. In addition, the playing surface will be replaced, and baseball dugouts will be enhanced. The major renovations are expected to be complete before the fall soccer season. — SHUPirates.com

The Atlanta Braves recently unveiled a new spring training complex in West Villages, Fla., a master-planned community in the City of North Port. The $125 million CoolToday Park complex features 90 acres of space with seven fields, 11 batting cages and 63 pitching mounds, in addition to the stadium itself. The ballpark has seating for 6,200, with a capacity of 8,000 including 1,800 general-admission tickets. — Fort Myers News-Press 

Comcast Spectator announced plans for a $50 million esports arena to be built in the Philadelphia Sports Complex. To be named “Fusion Arena,” the facility will provide seating for 3,500, and will merge gaming audiences with traditional sports audiences. Club seating will provide USB ports, and suites will provide amenities similar to those at other professional venues. Construction is slated to begin this summer. — Cheddar.com

Austin FC, Major League Soccer’s latest expansion franchise, will begin competition in its new permanent home in 2021. The team recently announced the construction manager for its forthcoming 20,500-seat, $240 million stadium. Groundbreaking for the project is expected to take place in September, and construction will finish within 18 months. — MLSSoccer.com

Progress continues on the new stadium under construction in Inglewood, Calif., which once complete will be shared by the NFL’s Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers, but the facility reached a major milestone on Friday as it lowered the last piece of an outer roof truss into place.
