Construction is set to begin on the $100 million expansion of luxury seating at Texas Christian University’s Amon G. Carter Stadium. The expansion will add two full levels of seating, including loge boxes, private clubs, luxury suites and 1,000 club seats, boosting capacity to 47,000. More details have emerged in the proposed MLS stadium in Austin, Texas. The city determined an appropriate site for the $200 million project, which would be built to house MLS’s Columbus Crew SC should the team choose to relocate from Ohio. — Austin American Statesman

Speaking of MLS soccer, media outlets were provided a sneak peek of DC United’s new, $200 million stadium which is slated to open next month. The stadium features 20,000 seats, 31 luxury suites, and a grass pitch. — Fox5dc.com

The University of Illinois is considering building an ice hockey arena to host a yet-to-be created program for the sport. Athletic director Josh Whitman said that he was “increasingly confident” in a funding model that would support the arena, which would reportedly cost $50 million to $60 million and seat between 5,000 and 6,000 fans. The facility would also likely serve the men’s and women’s gymnastics programs, as well as women’s volleyball and wrestling. — 247Sports.com
