On Monday, Jacksonville State University and the city of Jacksonville, Ala., were struck by strong storms and a tornado that damaged the school’s athletics facilities.
According to a written release by Greg Seitz, the school’s athletic director, the worst of the damage was done to Pete Mathews Coliseum, where the basketball and volleyball teams play. The building’s roof suffered intense damage, and the playing surface, lower levels and upstairs offices were all flooded.

In addition to the damage at the Coliseum, heavy winds snapped a power pole at the school’s softball field, which in turn damaged the stadium’s backstop. A light tower, batting cages and outfield fences were also blown down by the high winds.
