The University of Minnesota board of regents approved a renovation for 3M Arena at Mariucci, which will renovate 11,000 square feet of space within the facility. Plans call for a state-of-the-art weight room, a remodeled office suite and a new alumni room. The weight room will renovate 6,700 square feet of space, and include an area for shooting that will be used by both the men’s and women’s hockey programs. — GopherSports.com

Cal Poly has broken ground on a new facility for its beach volleyball program. The Mustang Beach Volleyball Complex will include five regulation NCAA beach volleyball courts, seating for 250, an LED video scoreboard and lights. The privately funded project is expected to cost about $3 million, and construction is expected to be complete in October. — GoPoly.com  

Clemson’s new softball program, which will make its debut in February, reached a milestone this week as it held a topping out ceremony for its new softball stadium. The final beam of the structure, signed by AD Dan Radakovich and the construction team, was put into place as work continues on the project, which is expected to cost $14 million, seat about 1,000 fans and be complete by late October or early November. — Durham Herald Sun

California Baptist University is in the midst of constructing the Athletic Performance Center, an expansion of the 40,682-square-foot Recreation Center that opened in 2013. The facility will include an enormous 10,800-square-foot weight room, which will be the largest among D1 non-football institutions in California.
