After not one, but two gym roof collapses on the campus of Montana State University, local fitness centers are stepping up to offer students displaced by the damage a place to work out.
While the Marga Hosaeus Fitness Center remains closed, three local gyms — Spire Climbing Center, the Gym of Belgrade and The Pitt — are offering special deals to MSU students, according to ABC/FOX Montana.
The deals are available only to affected students, and are as follows:
- Spire Climbing Center is offering 25 percent off monthly prepaid membership, or offering to waive the $40 student enrollment fee for its EFT autopay membership.
- The Gym of Belgrade is knocking $5 off its monthly membership fee, and waiving its $30 enrollment fee. The gym is offering to continue these specials even after the campus fitness center is back in business.
- The Pitt is offering 50 percent off fees for daily classes. The offer will let students take advantage as many times as they like while the fitness center is closed.
The roofs at the campus fitness center collapsed last week, but it’s unclear whether they were caused by some structural problem or by heavy snows, which have been slow to melt.

Montana State is reportedly mulling refunding rec center fees included in tuition while the fitness center is closed, but said that decision may depend on when the facility can be reopened.
Contractor crews are reportedly working on trying to clear the fitness center of snow.
