The XFL is moving forward with one of the NCAA's top executives in charge.

Vince McMahon named Oliver Luck commissioner and CEO of the XFL re-boot on Tuesday morning. Luck had been serving as the NCAA's executive vice president for regulatory affairs.

"Football has been a constant in my life for 40 years, and I am thrilled to have the unique opportunity to re-imagine the game," Luck said in the video. "I'm excited to present a dynamic version of America's favorite sport. I want a fast-paced, high-energy, authentic, yet simpler game. And we intend to deliver that and so much more."

Luck, father to Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, has also served as West Virginia's athletic director and was a two-time All-American for the Mountaineers.

The XFL is expected to kickoff in the spring of 2020. However, the new league will have some competition. The AAF, a league run by Bill Polian and Charlie Ebersol, will start in 2019 and already has some big names on board, including Steve Spurrier, Michael Vick, Brad Childress and others.

Still, Luck's involvement gives some legitimacy to the idea. According to the Associated Press' Ralph D. Russo, McMahon plans to make the XFL a more genuine venture this time around.
