DELHI, Iowa — Maquoketa Valley High School will continue with facility updates over the summer.
District school board members recently approved bids to replace the gym bleachers and floor.
FLR Sanders submitted the low bid to replace the floors at $88,500. Superintendent Doug Tuetken explained the price could be lower, however.
"The thing with this bid, the $88,500, that includes removal of the floor," he said. "If we can figure out how to remove the floor ourselves, they will reduce another $9,500."
The bid for new bleachers went to Seating and Athletic Facility Enterprises for $69,793. The price also could be reduced by about $5,000 if district staff can take out the bleachers themselves.
Tuetken said he hopes to have the floor available for use by Aug. 1 so school sports can use the gym if need be.
As for the bleachers, he said, he wants those installed by the first home volleyball game.
