Another Bizarre Score: Prep Basketball Game Ends 2-0

It wasn't a controversial blowout, but the final score was equally as unusual. A boys high school basketball game in Alabama ended with just one made basket.

Bibb County defeated Brookwood 2-0, with the winning basket coming just 15 seconds into the game. According to the National Federation of State High School Associations, it was the lowest-scoring high school game since 1977 when a game in North Carolina ended with the same score. Ron Ingram, the Alabama High School Athletic Association's Director of Communications, told TuscaloosaNews.com that it is the lowest scoring game in state history.

As the Tuscaloosa News reports:

Both Bibb County coach Russ Wallace and Brookwood coach Thad Fitzpatrick said they didn’t expect such a low-scoring affair heading into Saturday night’s contest.

It was the fourth game for both programs that week. The teams also met back in November, and Brookwood won 40-36.

“It was not my intention to go into that game and stall,” Fitzpatrick said. “The intention was to get as much rest as we can offensively, and do whatever we needed to do defensively. It was our fourth game of the week, and on Friday night we started cramping a lot, so I made the decision. We played earlier in the year and won, and I just decided we were going to try and slow down the offense, and on defense just guard like we normally do.”

Brookwood defeated Bibb County 40-36 earlier this season.

Maybe it's time to implement a shot clock in high school basketball?
