Feral Hogs Invade Texas High School Football Field

A pack of feral hogs is causing trouble at Liberty High School near Houston, Tex.

The hogs have taken over the high school's football field, leaving 6-foot ruts that could cause problems for players.

“We’ll try to move up to the middle of the field just away from that area so that we don’t take any chances of anybody twisting any ankles or knee or doing anything worse than that,” said Chad Taylor, athletic director of Liberty High School.

A team of trappers observing the hogs at night was able to determine that the hogs were likely coming from nearby woods

“They’ve been coming pretty clearly every night, in a group of about 18 to 20,” says Steven Horelica of Deep South Trapping.

Horelica and his team have developed a trap that will send a picture of the hogs inside a trap to a monitor. At that moment, the monitor can send a text that tells the gate to close immediately, trapping the hogs.

“We’re going to get a pretty good amount of hogs when they finally decide to trap them,” Taylor says.

In the meantime, keeping students safe is a priority.

“We definitely don’t want our students to be out here and a pack of hogs come after them,” Taylor says. “Because, you know, they can only run so far.”
