Parents at Lookout Valley (Tenn.) Middle/High School have voiced frustration and concern about the state of the schoolās athletic facilities.
An op-ed published on Chattanoogan.com said that many of the facilities are non-accessible, and prevent people with disabilities from being able to attend games. Jennifer Chandler, the author of that piece, published photos of the deteriorating facilities to Facebook.
The district announced a $125 million plan to repair and upgrade the facilities in 2018, but some of those projects have been delayed by weather and others remain in the planning stages. Currently, the schoolās tennis courts are undergoing renovations.
"We have the base down for the tennis court, we just need to put the top coat on," school district spokesperson Tim Hensley told NBC affiliate WRCB. "We had a lot of rain. One of the rainiest years in the past year that we've had in this area, so it has been a problem for us."
Meanwhile, Hensley told WRCB that progress on the remaining projects will ramp up in the coming months. He said that they hope to start renovations to the field house after next football season.
"It's just a matter of getting everything on the drawing board and making sure itās exactly what you want," Hensley said. "In the next six months, it's really going to see a lot of progress."
