A state auditor in Ohio has discovered that Monroe County High School's former athletic director owes the school more than $5,400.

As reported by Fox affiliate WTOV, the 2018 audit found that Ryan Rosnick did not account for that amount collected from varsity basketball and volleyball games.

According to auditor Keith Faber, Rosnick was responsible for collecting and counting tickets for those sports. Faber found there is no record that Rosnick deposited the corresponding funds with the school district. Rosnick resigned as athletics director in July and is now working at Barnesville Schools.

Barnesville superintendent Angie Hannahs issued this statement, "To my knowledge, he has not been convicted of anything. We are taking steps to ensure our athletic records are properly accounted for. Please contact the State Auditor's Office for further questions.”

Faber issued the following statement Tuesday: "When it comes to the mishandling of public dollars — my office doesn’t play games. We continue to be concerned with weak internal controls surrounding cash collection points at athletic events. In this case, there were multiple incidents where cash was not accounted for properly, which is the responsibility of the athletic director. I am issuing a finding for recovery to see that the mishandled funds are restored, and I urge school districts to carefully review their accounting procedures for all cash collection check points."
