Texas School District Board Puts $50M Stadium to Vote

A new $50 million high school football stadium in the Dallas area is closer to becoming a reality.

On Thursday, the McKinney (Texas) Independent School District school board unanimously approved putting a $220 million bond proposition before voters on May 7, The Dallas Morning News reported. The bond proposal includes a 12,000-seat football stadium.

Earlier this week, the McKinney city council approved to re-zone a 64-acre site for the stadium and events center, TV station NBC 5 reported.

The new stadium could be used for soccer games and band competitions, and it could draw high school state playoff football games.

Currently, three high schools in McKinney ISD (McKinney High, McKinney North and McKinney Boyd) share 7,000-seat Ron Poe Stadium that was built in 1962. In addition to limited seating at bigger games, parking, with less than 400 spots, has been an issue in recent years.
