RACINE, Wisconsin (October, 2014)- In the wake of high-profile brawls on high school football fields and basketball courts across the country involving coaches, players and fans, Jay Hammes has launched an online version of his Safe Sport Zone program. Designed to assist school officials in implementing event management policies that will provide a safer and more secure environment for participants and spectators, this course shows how to assemble an in-house security team, screen the admission gate and interact with irate fans.
“After-school event safety and security must be addressed by school districts,” says Bruce Whitehead, executive director of the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA). “Event staff training is an integral component of event safety and security.”
“This is a certification program that includes a presentation, exam and certificate,” says Jay Hammes, president and founder of Safe Sport Zone, which has been nationally recognized for its efforts in excellence by the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security. “Getting certified will help mitigate the liability of your organization should something happen at one of your after-school events.”
Endorsed by the NIAAA and the National Federation of State High School Associations, and in cooperation with American Family Insurance, Safe Sport Zone’s online training costs $35 per person, and all participants receive a certificate of completion from the NIAAA and Safe Sport Zone.
