CINCINNATI – In a first of its kind independent world-class obstacle course race, the best Obstacle Course Racers in the world came together to compete for the title of World Champion at the King’s Domain nature preserve in Oregonia, Ohio. Attendance and registration surpassed expectations as the event welcomed competitors from across the globe, some from as far as Sweden, Australia and South Africa, aiming to unify, promote, and increase participation in the burgeoning sport of Obstacle Course Racing.
The nearly nine-mile course married natural elements with some of the most challenging obstacles ever seen in the sport of Obstacle Course Racing. After an intense race, the United Kingdom’s Jonathan Albon took home first place in the men’s division while Canada’s Ryan Atkins placed second and the United States’ Hobie Call placed third. The women’s division finished with Sweden’s Siri Englund in first place, and the United States’ Cassidy Watton and Amy Pajcic in second and third place respectively.
“The sport of obstacle racing took a giant leap forward with the success of this event. Athletes from all over the world came together to not only compete on a neutral battleground, but also to celebrate the sport of OCR,” said OCRWC founder Adrian Bijanada. “The race, as well as the entire World Championship weekend was a success by every measure.”
Building off the success of this first event, race organizers will aim to further unify the sport of Obstacle Course Racing by introducing additional qualifying events in 2015 in areas such as South America, France, Italy and Japan.
