PlayCore, the leading company in play and recreation research, programming, and products, recently awarded its Fitness National Demonstration Site Award to the Dover Parks and Recreation Department of Dover OH, for their Walking and Fitness Path.
The new Fitness Path is a paved track that surrounds the children’s playground area of the City Park just off North Wooster Ave. The Dover Fitness Path features a collection of eight pieces of exercise equipment designed to provide cardio, strength, core, balance, and flexibility exercises using equipment such as a leg press, rowing machine and an elliptical machine among others. The park also features a pool, walking trails, professional Disc Golf course, eight baseball/softball fields, eight tennis courts, and two full-size basketball courts.
The National Demonstration Site Designation is given to parks that align with the four areas of a well rounded workout, involve the community in planning, actively market the space, and agree to participate in future data gathering. “We are amazed and thrilled with the responses and requests from communities that wish to incorporate this program into their parks and be a National Demonstration Site,” said Anne-Marie Spencer, PlayCore’s Corporate VP of Marketing.” She added, “The sites receive certification, become part of a national registry, and are promoted actively to other communities wishing to offer appropriate outdoor fitness for adults to help share best practices. We know the evidence-based benefits of outdoor exercise are many, and including outdoor fitness parks as an element of a diverse outdoor recreation system promotes community capital. We are excited to be working closely with so many communities to advance health and recreation opportunities with this initiative.”
