The College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass., has suspended longtime women’s basketball coach Bill Gibbons.

Gibbons, in his 34th season at Holy Cross, was suspended for the remainder of the 2018-19 season as the result of an internal investigation related to a personnel matter, according to a release issued by the school.

Telegram.com reported that associate head coach Ann McInerney has been tapped as interim head coach and will assume the role for the remainder of the season.

Gibbons went on voluntary administrative leave back in 2013 after a former Holy Cross women’s basketball player filed a suit against him, alleging he physically and verbally abused her. He was reinstated in 2014 after an internal investigation was conducted. The parties reached a settlement, the terms of which were not made public.

With 613 career wins, Gibbons is the second-winningest coach in Holy Cross history and trails only baseball coach Jack Berry, who finished his career with 616 wins.
