Sports teams often partner with brands on sponsorships, but the agreement the Portland Pickles, a collegiate wood-bat baseball team, just inked is thought to be a first.

According to KATU, the Pickles became the first baseball team to partner with a CBD brand.

Lazarus Naturals, a brand that produces hemp-derived CBD products, signed a two-year sponsorship agreement with the team, which will make select Lazarus Naturals products available at every home game. In addition, the partnership includes the launch of a Veterans at the Park Program, where fans can nominate veterans for a chance to win five tickets to attend a game in the Lazarus Naturals Patriot Box.

The CBD brand focuses on making its products affordable for veterans, as well as those on long-term disability and to households with low incomes.

It was the support for veterans that attracted the Pickles to the partnership.

“When we heard their vision of supporting the veteran community, we knew this would be a tremendous fit with our fans,” Pickles owner and operating partner Alan Miller said in a release announcing the move.

“This is a great opportunity to unite the American traditions of hemp and baseball, ushering in a new vision for the modern sporting world,” Lazarus Naturals chief marketing officer Dylan Summers said in the release.
