Trump Signs Memo Aimed at Academy Grads Going Pro

President Donald Trump is hoping those student-athletes attending military academies are able to take their game to the pros immediately upon graduation.

The president this week signed a presidential memorandum asking the Pentagon to develop a policy that would allow students to make the immediate transition from graduation to the professional sports draft.

The memo suggests those student-athletes graduating from academies should be able to defer their military service obligations given the “short window of time” they have to “take advantage of their athletic talents during which playing professional sports is realistically possible.”

“A revised policy will benefit the student-athletes, the Academies and ROTC programs, and the Armed Forces,” the memorandum states.

The president has given the defense secretary 120 days to develop a plan.
